Deforestasi di Indonesia


Jurnal Nature Climate Change melaporkan bahwa Indonesia kehilangan 840ribu hektar hutan alami pada 2012, bahkan melebihi hilangnya area hutan di Brasil seluas 460 ribu hektar. Padahal area hutan yang dimiliki Brasil adalah seperempat luas hutan hujan Amazon. Menurut Greenpeace, kerusakan hutan ini disebabkan oleh dorongan kelapa sawit serta pulp dan kertas yang meningkatkan emisi gas rumah kaca. Satwa seperti harimau sumatra pun berada di kondisi nyaris punah, dan penduduk lokal terancam kehilangan sumber penghidupan.
